Monitored In America

We’re a California-based, family-owned business serving fellow Americans since 1946 . We’re proud that all of our services are monitored exclusively in the United States.

America’s #1 Rated Medical Alert Provider

Bay Alarm Medical makes a variety of medical alert systems that provide a fast response time from a U.S-based operator in the event of an emergency. The set-up of each of its medical alert devices is simple—and for extra guidance, the Bay Alarm website features short videos showing how to install and use its devices.

Key Features

Four different medical alert systems are available, including a medical alert watch; all devices include a trial period within which the product can be returned and refunded for all costs except shipping, according to the company.

Website details how each system works and offers transparency about optional add-on features and pricing.

Costs are affordable compared to other medical alert devices, ranging from about $24.95 to $39.95 per month, not including add-ons like automatic fall alerts.

Nicole Gregory | Health Editor Forbes Health

Why we chose Bay Alarm Medical: Bay Alarm Medical covers all the bases with one of the lowest monthly fees in the market, while also providing free in-home equipment with no contract attached.

Bay Alarm Medical starts at $24.95 a month for a base station and one wearable medical alert button, in step with industry prices. What pushes it over the top is pairing it with no hidden charges for equipment fees or activation fees (which can often cost as much as $99), and no contract. This makes their basic in-home package an ideal medical alert system if you’re on a budget.

Their mobile subscription is also on the less-expensive side at $29.95 per month. The SOS All-In-One lets you bundle the mobile medical alert button with GPS tracking and 4G LTE along with the in-home unit for $39.95.

For home landline systems, Bay Alarm is one of the best deals you can get.

Best in-home medical alert: Starting at $20 per month, $0 equipment fee, $0 activation fee.

Home-based medical alert devices are ideal for those who don’t leave the house often. They can’t be used on the go (like at the grocery store), since they have to stay connected to an in-home base unit. They work in the yard or even a few houses down, as long as you find one with good range — like this medical alert from Bay Alarm Medical.

Best medical alert smartwatch: $30 per month, $179 for equipment.

Some medical alert watches require a smartphone, but the Bay Alarm SOS Smartwatch is functional all on its own. It has two-way calling, so if you press the help button, you can talk directly to the dispatcher through the smartwatch (and you can also talk to your loved ones). It also features location tracking and a built-in step tracker. The battery life ranges from six to 18 hours, depending on usage, and the device is water resistant with a rating of IP67.

Kim Wong-Shing | Senior Associate Editor, CNET

The Bay Alarm Medical In-Home Medical Alert ($24.95 per month) is a moderately priced, no-contract personal emergency response system that’s a breeze to install and use. It delivered quick response times in testing, and its two-way hands-free communication is excellent. We love the base unit’s extra-large help button, and the pendant help button’s solid in-home and outdoor range, though we found the reset button to be inconveniently located. That said, it’s the best medical alert system we’ve tested, and our Editors’ Choice… The company also gets our recommendation for having the most affordable and flexible pricing plans.

John R. Delaney | Contributing Editor, PCMag

Bay Alarm Medical is our top pick for the “Best Customer Service & Pricing Plans” for medical alert systems and is one of our overall top picks out of 23 companies reviewed. It particularly excelled in the “Reliability and Reputation” category, which measures the company qualities that impact the customer experience.

Christopher Norman, GNP | Senior Care Expert Contributor, Caring.com

Offering systems that work on either a landline or cellular connection, Bay Alarm Medical is one of the best in-home medical alert systems.

Affordable pricing: With no long-term contracts, Bay Alarm Medical offers affordable pricing options starting at $24.95 a month, making them one of the most affordable medical alert providers.

No long-term contracts: Companies like Life Alert require you to lock into three-year contracts; however, Bay Alarm Medical allows you to pay month-to-month, canceling at any time..

Monitored in the USA for Maximum Reliability

A medical alert system is only as good as the 24/7 emergency call center that backs it up. Bay Alarm Medical works closely with our USA-based monitoring partner to create a network of highly reliable emergency response centers. Located in Ogden, Utah and Rexburg, Idaho, the two state-of-the-art centers are full duplicates of each other. If one station were to ever go offline, the other station would provide immediate emergency coverage.

Strategically Separated

Bay Alarm Medical provides consultation, technical support and customer service from our headquarters in California. We keep 24/7 medical monitoring completely separate from our day to day business operations to ensure that all emergency calls are rapidly responded to.

Certified & Rated #1 in America

Both 24/7 emergency medical monitoring centers are CSAA Five Diamond Certified and undergo a rigorous certification process annually, commit to tough quality standards, and agree to random inspections by UL, a nationally recognized testing laboratory.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do your Medical Alert Systems Work?

You can expect help from us 24/7/365. In an emergency, just press your help button. This will initiate a call to our USA-based call center. An operator will speak to you through our two-way speaker in the main device, assess your situation, and then make the appropriate calls to get you help. Our operator will either contact your local emergency personnel or your emergency contacts. By default, we list 911 to be called first. The user can easily assign family, friends, caregivers, or neighbors to be contacted before 911.

Why can't I just use my cellphone to call for help?

Every second matters after a fall. Cellphones are usually tucked away in a pocket, purse, or require multiple steps just to make a phone call. Our medical alert systems have a simple push-button or automatic fall alerts that will immediately connect you to our USA-based emergency monitoring center. In addition, our mobile and smartwatch systems can share your precise location with our emergency operators. If you rely on a cellphone while you are out, how will you get up to check the street you're on?

Who should use a medical alert system?

Medical alert devices are designed to help people who fall into any of the following categories:

  • Live alone or left alone for extended periods by caregiver.
  • Use mobility assisted devices (walkers, canes, crutches, wheelchairs).
  • Have functional limitations in performing two or more ADL (activities of daily living).
  • Live in an unsafe neighborhood, or feel unsafe at home.
  • Have home safety hazards which are not correctable, or expense considerations.
  • Are more than 75 years of age.
  • Have sensory deficits (vision or hearing).
  • Have a history of falls.
  • Have been hospitalized within the last 12 months.
  • Are physically frail.
  • Have a history of medication management problems.
  • Have a cognitive deficit.

What if I live in a rural area? Can you still provide medical alert service?

As long as you have a compatible home phone and power we can provide service with most of our medical alert devices. Our In-Home Cellular Medical Alert System and Mobile Devices are powered by 4G LTE AT&T or Verizon network coverage in your area.

Among our mobile medical alerts, we recommend the All-in-One 2 over the SOS Micro for people living in rural areas because SOS Micro relies on WiPS for location tracking.

Our Care Consultants will be able to evaluate your location to confirm if the network coverage is sufficient enough to give you proper coverage.

How long does it take to get a response once the medical alarm is triggered?

It takes about 45 seconds or less for you to hear the live emergency dispatcher through the two-way speaker. When you press the button, you will hear the alert sound as it connects to the monitoring center.

Are medical alert systems covered by Medicare?

Traditional Medicare doesn't cover medical alert systems, but some Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans and private insurers do. You may also be able to use your HSA or an employer plan to pay for your system. Learn more about Medicare and medical alert systems.

Will this interfere with my pacemaker?

Our wearable in-home buttons do not interfere with pacemakers. Our mobile systems have tiny magnets due to an internal speaker for two-way communication. It is always advised to check with your Care Provider to ensure the best and safest results.

Are your medical alert devices waterproof?

Our wearable help buttons are 100% waterproof. The SOS All-In-One, SOS Mobile and SOS Smartwatch are water-resistant and can withstand wet environments like the shower, so long as they aren’t submerged.

Do I need a landline to use a medical alert system?

No. All of our services include systems with LTE cellular.

Do you call family in an emergency?

Yes. You can set up your emergency contact list to call family, friends, or neighbors prior to contacting emergency personnel.

What is the battery life of your medical alert systems?

Our wearable buttons have a 5 year battery life and doesn't need to be charged. Our mobile devices can last anywhere between 1-6 days before needing a recharge.

What's your refund policy?

You may cancel your Bay Alarm Medical subscription at any time and we will refund any unused months less shipping costs. Do I have to sign a long-term contract? Bay Alarm Medical does not require a long-term contract. Unlike some companies, we want to keep things simple. We will cancel your account once we receive all of the equipment in working/original condition without any cancellation fees.

Is there a trial period available for the Bay Alarm Medical Alert System?

Yes – In accordance with our 15-day refund policy, you may place an order with us and try out the system.

If for any reason you need to cancel your Bay Alarm Medical services, simply give our office a call at 1-877-522-9633 to let us know that you are cancelling. You will receive proper power down instructions as well as steps to return the device(s) back to our office. We recommend you get a tracking number to track the package back to us.

IMPORTANT: The account is not fully canceled until the equipment has been returned in working condition AND processed. You will receive an email confirmation once it has been canceled. We recommend you return and postmark the package on or before the next bill date.

Bay Alarm Medical does not hold customers to contracts, so you may cancel at any time without cancellation fees.

Return Address: Bay Alarm Medical Cancellations
1140 Galaxy Way, Suite #150

What happens if the medical alert base station or pendant breaks?

If you lose or break the pendant, a new one can be purchased online or by phone.

We offer a Premiere Protection Plan (Warranty) at an additional cost which allows for one unit replacement per contractual year and all lost or damaged accessories are 50% off its current replacement value.

Main devices: If you have multiple devices (i.e. Both In-home & SOS Mobile), we would replace one device and the second would only be covered at 50% if both are damaged/lost/etc. in the same contractual year. If you have additional questions regarding replacements or our Protection Place, please call us at 1-877-522-9633.

Does Medicare pay for medical alert systems?

No, typically, Medicare does NOT pay for a medical alert system. Most insurance plans don't pay, but some will, so be sure to check. And there are some other options to help. See our guide for more details: Do Medicare & Insurance Pay for Medical Alert Systems?

Do senior organizations recommend medical alert systems?

Yes. Several senior organizations, including AARP, have issued strong endorsements on the use of life-saving, home medical alert systems. The use of these devices is predicted to continue growing strongly. See: Senior Organizations Endorse Medical Alert Devices

Do you need a landline for a medical alert system?

No, a landline is not needed for a medical alert system. While the base station typically connects to a landline if available, an appropriate cellular signal will also work with comparable results for many home alert systems. See more: Do I Need a Landline To Us Bay Alarm Medical Alert Systems?

What is the range of your medical alert system?

Expect a range of up to 1,000 feet for your medical alert system outside the home - that's about 3 football fields (or 2 acres). For travel further afield, there are GPS-enabled systems too. See more: Do Medical Alert Systems Work Outside The Home?

What battery life does your system have?

The battery life of the wearable part of the home medical alert system is 2-5 years. The base station has a backup battery good for 32 hours in a power outage. See more: Medical Alert Buttons, Alarm Necklaces & Accessories
