How We Got Started
Founded in 1946 by Marj and Everett Westphal (pictured), Bay Alarm had a straightforward goal: work diligently, maintain honesty, treat everyone like family, and provide top-notch service. Throughout the decades, the Westphal family has stayed dedicated to nurturing Bay Alarm and it’s subsidaries, caring for its workforce, and safeguarding its clients. Now, their grandson Matt Westphal leads Bay Alarm Medical as its owner and CEO.
Our Promise to You
At Bay Alarm Medical, we recognize that a lack of knowledge about the medical alert systems market heightens seniors’ susceptibility to fraud and unethical tactics. It has made the elderly prime targets for deceptive business practices, especially scams involving medical alert system providers.
As an industry leader, Bay Alarm Medical embraces the responsibility to uphold exemplary standards in business conduct, professional behavior, and employee expectations.
Our Code of Ethics sets a clear benchmark, aiming to establish uncompromisingly ethical and transparent practices across the sector. By doing so, we strive to safeguard older consumers and elevate integrity within the medical alert systems industry.
1. No Telephone Cold Calls
Bay Alarm Medical will never cold call non-customers for the purpose of making a sale, purchase third party customer lists or contract with third-party outbound call centers for such purposes.
2. Zero Tolerance for High Pressure Sales
When a customer says they are not interested, we vow not to ask them to change their mind. Bay Alarm Medical understands that “no” means “no.” Likewise, we vow to allow customers time to make decisions at their own pace and ask as many questions as they want. We will never rush customers to make decisions.
3. Customer Needs Take Priority Over Sales
We promise to provide information, products and services based on a customer’s particular needs, and never suggest non-essential purchases.
4. No Unwanted Follow-up Calls
Bay Alarm Medical will never make a follow-up call to a prospective customer that has requested not to be called. We will always respect the time it takes to make a decision regarding safety and security.
5. Courteous, Helpful, Comprehensive Service
Bay Alarm Medical customer service professionals must listen carefully to customer concerns and provide courteous, prompt and helpful service to ensure the highest level of satisfaction. Every Customer Care Consultant must undergo extensive background checks to be eligible for employment with Bay Alarm Medical. They must also participate in a rigorous technical training program and also go through sensitivity refinement training. Customer satisfaction is our number one priority.
6. Protect Personal Information and Privacy
Bay Alarm Medical does not collect personal customer information except when specifically and knowingly provided to the company by the customer. This includes on our website or paper forms. We do not and will never sell personal information to third parties.
7. Honest and Transparent Practices
Bay Alarm Medical vows to publicly post and make readily available to customers all information regarding pricing for its product and services, as well as any business or customer-related policies. In addition, we encourage customer feedback, and will never hide or delete customer comments or complaints.
8. All Employees Must Abide by Code of Ethics
As a condition of employment, all Bay Alarm Medical employees must indicate in writing that they will abide by the company’s Code of Ethics. Should a Bay Alarm Medical employee violate the company’s Code of Ethics, they are subject to immediate dismissal from the company.
America’s #1 Rated Medical Alert Provider
The Bay Alarm Medical In-Home Medical Alert ($19.95 per month) is a moderately priced, no-contract personal emergency response system that’s a breeze to install and use. It delivered quick response times in testing, and its two-way hands-free communication is excellent. We love the base unit’s extra-large help button, and the pendant help button’s solid in-home and outdoor range, though we found the reset button to be inconveniently located. That said, it’s the best medical alert system we’ve tested, and our Editors’ Choice… The company also gets our recommendation for having the most affordable and flexible pricing plans.
The Bay Alarm Medical On-The-Go GPS Help Button is small, simply designed and easy to use. Even better, the response times to my calls were so quick that it gave me a real sense of confidence in the system’s ability to provide emergency help rapidly and effectively when needed.
Bay Alarm Medical is our top pick for the “Best Customer Service & Pricing Plans” for medical alert systems and is one of our overall top picks out of 23 companies reviewed. It particularly excelled in the “Reliability and Reputation” category, which measures the company qualities that impact the customer experience.
Offering systems that work on either a landline or cellular connection, Bay Alarm Medical is one of the best in-home medical alert systems.
Affordable pricing: With no long-term contracts, Bay Alarm Medical offers affordable pricing options starting at $24.95 a month, making them one of the most affordable medical alert providers.
No long-term contracts: Companies like Life Alert require you to lock into three-year contracts; however, Bay Alarm Medical allows you to pay month-to-month, canceling at any time..
Best in-home medical alert: Starting at $20 per month, $0 equipment fee, $0 activation fee.
Home-based medical alert devices are ideal for those who don’t leave the house often. They can’t be used on the go (like at the grocery store), since they have to stay connected to an in-home base unit. They work in the yard or even a few houses down, as long as you find one with good range — like this medical alert from Bay Alarm Medical.
Best medical alert smartwatch: $30 per month, $179 for equipment.
Some medical alert watches require a smartphone, but the Bay Alarm SOS Smartwatch is functional all on its own. It has two-way calling, so if you press the help button, you can talk directly to the dispatcher through the smartwatch (and you can also talk to your loved ones). It also features location tracking and a built-in step tracker. The battery life ranges from six to 18 hours, depending on usage, and the device is water resistant with a rating of IP67.
Why we chose Bay Alarm Medical: Bay Alarm Medical covers all the bases with one of the lowest monthly fees in the market, while also providing free in-home equipment with no contract attached.
Bay Alarm Medical starts at $24.95 a month for a base station and one wearable medical alert button, in step with industry prices. What pushes it over the top is pairing it with no hidden charges for equipment fees or activation fees (which can often cost as much as $99), and no contract. This makes their basic in-home package an ideal medical alert system if you’re on a budget.
Their mobile subscription is also on the less-expensive side at $29.95 per month. The SOS All-In-One lets you bundle the mobile medical alert button with GPS tracking and 4G LTE along with the in-home unit for $39.95.
For home landline systems, Bay Alarm is one of the best deals you can get.
